Ambulance Service
Emergency Medical Service
system (abbreviated to acronym "EMS" in many countries) is a service
providing pre-hospital (or out-of-hospital) acute care to patients with
illnesses and injuries. The most common and recognised EMS type is an
Ambulance organisation.
The aim of an EMS is to provide treatment to those in need of urgent medical care, with the goal of either satisfactorily treating the malady, or arranging for timely removal of the patient to the next point of definitive care. This is most likely an Emergency Department at a hospital or another place where physicians are available.
