A Hindu , as per modern definition, is an adherent of the philosophies and scriptures of Hinduism, and the religious, philosophical and cultural system that originated in the Indian subcontinent.

There are approximately 1 billion Hindus, making Hinduism the third largest religion in the world after Christianity and Islam. Approximately 890 million Hindus live in India. Other countries with large Hindu populations include Bangladesh, Fiji, Guyana, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nepal, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago. Hinduism is the oldest existing religion in the world.
